The SIU-affiliated Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education is hiring a Simulator Specialist/Instructor and a Deck Instructor. Both jobs are full-time.

Simulator Specialist/Instructor
Full Time
Compensation: To be paid no less than the minimum as per the CBA, however, actual hourly rate to be determined based on skill & ability
Largest commercial merchant marine training facility, located in Southern Maryland, is looking for a deck instructor to teach classes and serve onboard the school’s training vessel. License needs to be OICNW/3rd Mate or equivalent military ratings. Job includes great benefits and retirement.
Duties for this position include adhering to the policies & procedures of the School QSS. The successful candidate will be responsible for continual on-the- job training and support for simulator operators and instructors. Coordinates development and updates of simulator scenarios. Operates simulators during training evolutions. Test simulator exercise, databases and hydrodynamic models. Maintains the inventory of scenarios in the system database as well as updates maintenance logs for technical and visual issues. Assist in facilitation of pre-brief and debriefs. Liaison with all vendors and IT department. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for this position are: Five to seven years in maritime industry, officer experience preferred. This experience should include watchstanding in either the deck or engine department with knowledge of automated systems and/or radio communications as well as exposure to rules of the road. Computer skills including Word, Excel, MS office, PDF, etc. and networking knowledge preferred. Technical writing skills required. The ability to obtain USCG NMC approval to teach School courses; proficiency in public speaking; professional certification as required by USCG; Train the Trainer and Simulator Train the Trainer certification (we will provide). Holding a current MMC is a plus.

Deck Instructor

Duties for this position include adhering to the policies & procedures of the School QSS; teaching assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum; subject matter expert for course development; maintaining the condition of training aids to support curriculum; participating in professional development activities developed by the School; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for this position are possessing and maintaining a valid MMC with appropriate operational level license, TWIC, the ability to obtain USCG NMC approval to teach School courses, proficiency in public speaking, professional certification as required by USCG, proven maritime proficiency or appropriate experience for subject matter, ability to lift 40 lbs., Train the Trainer certification (we will provide). This job requires sailing on the schools training vessel as needed.
