Threat Type: Threat to Commercial Vessels Geographic Area: Red Sea, Bab al Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden
On October 2nd, the UN-brokered truce in Yemen expired. This could result in an increased threat to merchant vessels operating in the Red Sea, Bab al Mandeb Strait, and Gulf of Aden. Exercise increased caution when transiting these areas. U.S. commercial vessels operating in these areas should review U.S. Maritime Advisory 2022-008 (Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, Bab al Mandeb Strait, Red Sea, and Western Indian Ocean – Threats to Commercial Vessels) for amplifying information and points of contact. This alert will automatically expire on October 13, 2022.
