Paul Hall Center Upgrading Course Schedules

 

Storekeeper pre-requisites:

1. Must have 125 days sailing in two previous calendar years

2. Valid SHBP medical through start date of class

3. Valid MSC physical

4. Rated/upgraded and sailed at least once above entry rating

5. Valid government vessels course within last 5 years or must take it prior to SK class

6. Military time or equivalent as SK will be considered

 

Storekeeper application process:

1.  Submit upgrading application

2.  Must have TABE test with reading score of 8th grade or higher.  If no TABE score or below 8th grade must take UA reading test at local union hall and score 8th grade or higher

3.  Take SK aptitude test, to be given in union hall.  If scores below 50% can retake in 6 months, 51% to 60% must attend one week computer class course at SHLSS prior to SK, 61% or above is passing

Academic Department Courses

 

General education and college courses are available as needed at the Paul Hall Center. A basic vocational support program is offered throughout the year while attending a course. The following additional opportunities are currently available: Adult Basic Education (ABE), the SHLSS College Program, and Vocational Course Preparation, up to two weeks prior to the beginning of a vocational course.  When applying for Course Preparation, students should list the name of the vocational course he or she will be attending on their application. There is also an Introduction to Computers course comprised of self-paced modules for learning Microsoft Office applications.
