As you probably know, there is a strong possibility that our brothers and sisters from the International Longshoremen’s Association will go on strike beginning Tuesday, October 1.
The SIU of course will honor the job action and will not cross any ILA picket lines, and we stand in solidarity with the ILA.
The strike would shut down five of the 10 busiest ports in the U.S., and a total of 36 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts.
Seafarers are advised that in the event you are restricted to your ships as a result of the strike, the union will pursue all claims, including any extra pay due in accordance with our standard agreements.
Additionally, we are working with all affected parties about how to implement crew changes during the strike. We will make those details available as they become known.
