Seattle Labor Community and Global Transport Unions to Protest Against Disgraced Union-Busting CEO at Interferry Conference
UK-based P&O Ferries CEO Peter Hebblethwaite has faced widespread condemnation after ordering the illegal firing of 786 seafarers via a pre-recorded Zoom call in March.
(SEATTLE) — Seattle union members and leaders from U.S. and international transport unions plan to protest against the participation of the self-confessed lawbreaker and union buster Peter Hebblethwaite, the CEO of UK-based P&O Ferries, at the Interferry Conference in Seattle.
P&O Ferries illegally fired 786 seafarers via Zoom call, breaching laws on union consultation, and replaced them with non-unionized workers, with many being paid only a fraction of the UK National Minimum Wage.
This follows a letter from Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, calling on Interferry to remove Hebblethwaite as a panelist.
