San Antonio to Host MTD Executive Board Meeting March 9 & 10
Speakers from the military, government, industry and labor will address the Executive Board of the Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO when it meets in San Antonio on March 9 and 10. Among the topics expected to be addressed during the two-day session are the future of the U.S.-flag commercial fleet, funding for the Maritime Security Program, preserving the Jones Act and fighting for maritime infrastructure upgrades and more.
A total of nine speakers are scheduled to appear, including TOTE President & CEO Anthony Chiarello, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral David Callahan, Navy League of the United States Executive Director USCG RADM (ret.) Cari Thomas, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection Officer Michael Hebert from the newly created Jones Act Division of Enforcement.
The audience will include labor officials and maritime business representatives. The sessions will take place in the Regency East 1-3 Ballrooms (2nd floor) at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, 123 Losoya Street, San Antonio TX 78205.
MTD President Michael Sacco will call the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. (CST) each day.
The agenda for Thursday, March 9, offers Texas AFL-CIO President John Patrick, RADM Callahan (commander of the USCG 8th District), Officer Hebert and Will Fischer, Director of Government Affairs at VoteVets.
Scheduled for Friday, March 10, are AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka; TOTE’s Chiarello; Navy League’s RADM Thomas; Anthony Fisher, Deputy Associate Administrator for Commercial Sealift at the U.S. Maritime Administration; and Hawaii State representative Chris Lee.
The Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO is composed of 22 international unions and 21 port maritime councils in the United States and Canada representing nearly 5 million working men and women.
