SIU Retains Jobs in Horizon Acquisitions (5/29)

Back to News

The message below has been sent from the union to SIU crews aboard Horizon Lines ships.

Three related news releases have been issued: one from Matson, available HERE; one from The Pasha Group, posted HERE; and one from Crowley Maritime, HERE

Dear SIU Brothers and Sisters:

As you may have heard, Matson today has completed its acquisition of Horizon Lines’ Alaska operations, while The Pasha Group has wrapped up its purchase of Horizon’s Hawaii assets.

These acquisitions are good news for the SIU, and it is business as usual for our crews aboard the seven affected vessels. Those ships are (now under the Matson umbrella) the Tacoma, Kodiak and Anchorage; and (now with Pasha, to be operated by Crowley) the Enterprise, Pacific, Reliance, and Spirit.

Our standard contract still applies aboard all seven ships.

Your union worked hard not only to retain these jobs but also to keep them under the standard contract. Your continued support and professionalism were vital to our success.

We’ll keep you posted on related developments stemming from the sales as they unfold, but again the bottom line for the SIU is “business as usual” aboard all seven vessels.
