Calif. Seafarers rally for Wisconsin workers (4/1)

On March 26, SIU members and officials, joined by personnel from the Seafarers-affiliated United Industrial Workers, were among the approximately 20,000 people who demonstrated in downtown Los Angeles to demand good jobs and stand with workers in Wisconsin who are fighting to protect collective bargaining.

Photos from the rally appear below.

According to the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, “This was the largest action led by our labor movement in recent history.”

The federation further reported that during the rally in Pershing Square, Mahlon Mitchell, the president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, “gave a rousing speech connecting Wisconsin to LA.”

Mahlon told the crowd that recent anti-worker legislative maneuvers in Wisconsin signify “an attack on me. This is about an attack on you. This is an emergency we have in Wisconsin and across the U.S. This is about an attack on the middle class. We need to reclaim our moral outrage ... because we are in the battle of a lifetime.”
