The SIU and its affiliated school in southern Maryland are excited to announce the next phase of the waterfront restoration project at the Paul Hall Center’s Lundeberg School in Piney Point: construction of a park highlighted by engraved walkway bricks, which are available to be donated.

This is your chance to support the project while permanently recognizing individuals and organizations. With each donation of a brick, you’ll also be eligible to submit one suggestion for our name-the-park contest.

While proceeds from brick donations will be used to help offset some of the costs of the overall restoration (a multi-million dollar endeavor), our larger aim is to beautify the area while giving people an opportunity to share memories and honor others in a lasting way. For instance, your engraved brick may be for a particular lifeboat class, or an instructor, or a crew that performed a heroic rescue. You may want to honor the memory of a departed loved one, or some other person who helped you along the way. Or,you may want to salute a company or an individual that’s made a difference for the U.S. Merchant Marine. The possibilities are almost limitless, and the engravings do not have to be related to the school.

Bricks are available in two sizes, and ordering information is available online at We are offering a traditionally sized brick (4 inches by 8 by 2-1/4) with three lines of engraving for $125. A larger one (8 inches by 8 by 2-1/4) with six lines of engraving is available for $250; that same-sized brick may be ordered with a corporatelogo and up to three lines of text (subject to space limitations based on the logo) for $300. If submitting a logo, please note that it cannot be sent through the online order form. Logos (either in EPS, AI, PDF or high-resolution JPG, BMP or TIF format) should be emailed to Please include your contact information.

Please join us in supporting this worthwhile project, and don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. Questions as well as name-the-park submissions may be emailed to We are planning to start construction as soon as possible; bricks will be available until the project has been completed.
