Houston membership meeting moved to Sept. 19

The SIU hall in Houston is “up and running” following outages caused by Hurricane Ike. The September membership meeting originally scheduled for this past Monday has been rescheduled for Friday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. local time.

Additionally, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston has issued a marine safety information bulletin indicating that the Houston ship channel is open at all times to vessels with drafts of 16 feet or less. That same bulletin notes that the channel from “Sea Buoy to Shell Oil and Chemical Facility at Deer Park” is open to daylight transits for vessels with drafts of 38 feet or less. From the Shell Oil and Chemical Facility at Deer Park to Turning Basin, the channel is open to daylight transits for vessels with drafts of 30 feet or less.

The bulletin adds, “Mariners are advised that Aids to Navigation may be off station and to use extreme caution when transiting through the area.”
