MTD announces meeting details (2/21)

The Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO has announced details of its upcoming executive board meeting. The MTD news release appears below and also is available on the department’s web site HERE

MTD to Hold 2008 Executive Board Meeting

The Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO will be holding its 2008 executive board meeting on February 28-29 at the Hotel del Coronado near San Diego, California.

The delegates will be setting a legislative agenda for the upcoming year. Topics to be discussed include commercial and naval shipbuilding, the Maritime Security Program, the Jones Act, cargo preference, the Title XI shipbuilding loan guarantee program, maritime labor’s support for the troops, among others.

Speakers include the following:

Congress: Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR); Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI).

Government: Thomas Barrett, Deputy Secretary of Transportation; Sean Connaughton, U.S. Maritime Administrator; Admiral Thad Allen, Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard.

Military: Admiral Ann Rondeau, Deputy Commander, USTRANSCOM; General Kathleen Gainey, Commander, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.

Private Sector: General Kenneth Wykle (U.S. Army retired), National Defense Transportation Association; Fred Harris, CEO, NASSCO; Tom Crowley, President and CEO, Crowley Maritime Corporation.

Labor: Richard Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer, AFL-CIO; Paddy Crumlin, National Secretary, Maritime Union of Australia.
