Coast Guard committee seeks new members (3/13)

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued the following news release seeking applicants to serve on the agency’s Towing Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC). The release also is available on the Coast Guard web site HERE TOWING SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEEKS NEW MEMBERS WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard is soliciting applications for seven positions to the Towing Safety Advisory Committee. Applications must be received on or before March 30, 2007. The TSAC advises the Secretary of Homeland Security on matters relating to shallow-draft inland and coastal waterway navigation and towing safety. The Coast Guard uses this advice in formulating the position of the United States at meetings of the International Maritime Organization. The TSAC meets at least once a year in Washington, D. C. or at another location selected by the Coast Guard. The current solicitation seeks applications for three representatives of the barge and towing industry, one from port districts, authorities, or terminal operators; one from maritime labor; and two from shippers. The 16-person membership also includes representatives of the offshore mineral and oil supply vessel industry and the general public. To be eligible, applicants should have particular expertise, knowledge, and experience in towing operations, marine transportation, or business operations associated with shallow-draft inland and coastal waterway navigation and towing safety.
