A naming ceremony took place this past weekend in San Diego for the fourth Alaska Class tanker built by NASSCO for BP Shipping Ltd. The Alaskan Legend – to be operated by SIU-contracted Alaska Tanker Co. – officially was named Aug. 12 at the shipyard.According to NASSCO, the double-hulled vessel, capable of carrying 1.3 million barrels of crude oil, is slated for delivery Aug. 18.

SIU President Michael Sacco and Executive Vice President Augie Tellez attended the event.
The Alaskan Legend will join SIU-crewed sister ships Alaskan Frontier, Alaskan Explorer and Alaskan Navigator in ATC’s fleet. The ships operate between Alaska and western U.S. ports.
