According to reports from the U.S. Military Sealift Command, the USNS Lewis and Clark has been delivered to the agency today, June 20.Crewed by members of the SIU Government Services Division, the dry cargo/ammunition vessel, designated T-AKE, is the first in a new class of Combat Logistics Force ships and can deliver ammunition, provisions, stores, spare parts, potable water and petroleum products to the Navy’s carrier strike groups and other naval forces worldwide.
The Lewis and Clark is the first of nine ships of this class, all scheduled to be built at San Diego’s NASSCO shipyard.

Additionally, the Navy will christen the second new T-AKE, the USNS Sacagawea, on Saturday, June 24 during a 7:15 p.m. PDT launching at NASSCO.
