Notice to Seafarers (1/6)

The SIU has been advised by the U.S. Department of Defense that mariners who are crewing up ships for the next phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom (vessel activations started in early January) will be required to receive smallpox vaccinations but will not be required to take anthrax inoculations.

The form required by the government for smallpox vaccinations is posted on the SIU web site – in PDF format – and is available by clicking HERE

Seafarers who plan to sail on any military support ships are urged to complete this form and bring it to the union hall before shipping out.

Any changes in the status of the vaccination requirements will be posted here ASAP and also will be forwarded to all SIU halls.
