Seafarers recently welcomed new shipboard job opportunities when the M/V Alliance New York joined the U.S.-flag fleet as part of the Maritime Security Program (MSP). A ceremony took place Nov. 10 in Baltimore. Photos from the event appear below.Featured speakers from the armed services included (in order of appearance) General Norton Schwartz, commander, United States Transportation Command; Vice Admiral David Brewer, commander, United States Military Sealift Command; and General Robert Magnus, assistant commandant, United States Marine Corps. SIU President Michael Sacco also delivered remarks.
The ship is a car carrier built in April 2005. It is 656 feet long, has a beam of 105.8 feet and can sail at greater than 20 knots.
