SIU’s New Orleans hall partially reopens (9/13)

The SIU hall in Harvey, Louisiana (roughly 10 miles from downtown New Orleans) has reopened, although the facility still is without computer access. A partial staff is manning the hall, which regained electrical power on Sept. 12. Phones at the hall are operational. Faxes are intermittent.

The building, located at 3911 LaPalco Boulevard, sustained relatively minor flooding along with roof damage and some related difficulties.

As previously noted, shipping and registration that normally would take place at the New Orleans hall has been transferred to the Houston hall. That is still the case while the New Orleans hall is brought back to fully operational status. The phone number at the Houston hall is (713) 659-5152.

The only other SIU hall affected by Katrina is the Mobile, Alabama hall, which has been open since Sept. 3. The main building in Mobile lost power for four days but otherwise wasn’t harmed. However, a secondary building – physically separate but still part of the union’s facilities in Mobile on Dauphin Island Parkway – sustained major flood damage. That building contains a meeting room and storage space.

Updates will be posted on this site and distributed to the halls in a timely manner.
