Photos from Pride of America christening (6/20)

The Seafarers-contracted Pride of America, the second vessel in NCL America’s fleet, was christened June 17 in New York City.

Photos from the event appear below, along with pictures of SIU members working behind the scenes that same day and a few other images from inside the ship. Full coverage of the christening will be included in the July issue of the Seafarers LOG.

The Pride of America is the first new U.S.-flag deep sea cruise ship in 50 years.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao served as the vessel’s godmother, delivering the keynote address and christening the Pride of America on a sunny, breezy afternoon before hundreds of enthusiastic guests. Her prepared remarks are available on the Labor Department web site here

SIU President Michael Sacco also was a featured speaker, along with NCL America President and CEO Colin Veitch, Star Cruises Chairman Tan Sri Lim Lok Thay, and U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Thomas Gilmour.
