With Seafarers in Baltimore (8/21)

Around the port of Baltimore, SIU members are active aboard many different types of vessels. Cable ships, RO/ROs and a hospital ship are among the Seafarers-crewed vessels home ported in the town nicknamed Charm City.

Earlier this summer, several shipboard ceremonies took place in Baltimore as SIU crews were honored by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MarAd) and the U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC) for their support of American and allied troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Ready Reserve Force (RRF) ships Wright and Cape Washington and the hospital ship USNS Comfort were among those serving as backdrops for the ceremonies.

Last week, on a more routine day, a visit to Maryland’s largest city found Seafarers steadily getting the job done despite very hot temperatures. Several of those SIU members are pictured below. More will appear in the September issue of the Seafarers LOG.
