MTD meetings continue (2/21)

The AFL-CIO Maritime Trades Department is conducting its executive board meetings in Bal Harbour, Fla. Feb. 20-21. Guest speakers at yesterday's meeting included U.S. Maritime Administrator Capt. William Schubert; Horizon Lines President Charles Raymond; U.S. Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska); U.S. Rep. William Delahunt (D-Mass.); and U.S. Rep. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.).

Scheduled for today are Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski; UFCW President Douglas Dority; AFL-CIO President John Sweeney; Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard President John Graykowski; and AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka.

Founded in 1946, the MTD is composed of 29 affiliated unions (including the SIU) and 24 port maritime councils. SIU President Michael Sacco also serves as president of the MTD.
