Photos of Alaskans training at Paul Hall Center (3/13)

As previously reported on this site and in the Seafarers LOG, the SIU, the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education, and the administration of Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski are partnering to recruit and train dislocated workers from Alaska for careers in the U.S. Merchant Marine.

Pictured below are some of the first students to train at Piney Point through this program.

In partnership with the SIU, the school and the Ketchikan-based nonprofit recruiting and referral agency, SEA Link Inc., the state’s labor department will train and place qualified dislocated Alaskans previously employed in the fishing industry into family-wage jobs as merchant mariners aboard U.S.-flag commercial vessels engaged in the Alaska, domestic and international deep sea shipping industry, O’Claray noted.

The school offers a comprehensive array of vocational curriculums, from entry-level to officer training. Academic support is available as well.
