RRF activations continue (1/14)

In support of the war on terrorism, a number of SIU-crewed ships from the Ready Reserve Force have been activated during the first two weeks of the new year.

Among the RRF vessels that already have crewed up or are in the process: USNS Pollux (in New Orleans), USNS Antares (Jacksonville, Fla.), USNS Curtiss (San Diego), USNS Wright (Baltimore), USNS Gilliland (Newport News, Va.) and USNS Mendonca (Newport News).

According the U.S. Military Sealift Command, the Gilliland and Mendonca will load military cargo in Savannah, Ga. this week and sail for southwest Asia.

More news about activations will be posted on this site as it becomes available. Look for additional details and photos in the February issue of the Seafarers LOG.
