DOT report confirms 'critical role' of maritime transport system (11/8)

The U.S. Department of Transportation has issued a report that states nearly 1.2 billion tons of waterborne foreign trade moved through seaports in the United States in 2000. Waterborne foreign trade reached its highest level in recent years in August 2000 when almost 105 million metric tons were imported and exported.
